This year, we were thrilled to launch our Dare Mentorship Program for boys, a year-long journey that pairs mentors with teenage boys to guide, support, and challenge them in their personal and spiritual growth. It's been an incredible experience seeing both the mentors and the mentees grow throughout the year, and we’re excited to share some of the powerful stories that have come out of this program.
One mentor shared the story of a shy, withdrawn mentee who, at the start of the program, struggled with self-esteem and finding his place. Over time, however, this young man has flourished. He’s come to understand that he is made in the image of God, and this truth has given him newfound confidence. He’s now not only more engaged with others but also more helpful and compassionate. One of his biggest personal growth moments has been learning to pray, a simple but profound practice that’s deepened his faith and connection to God.
Another mentee’s transformation has been equally remarkable. Initially, he followed the crowd and was heavily influenced by his peers, often thinking that sin was just a normal part of life. Through the mentorship program, he’s learned to think differently. He no longer wants to follow the crowd and has begun to recognize that sin is not what God wants for his life. He’s reduced his time on his cellphone, using it less for social media and more for focusing on positive activities. He now helps more around the house and spends more time in prayer. Even his mom has noticed a significant shift in his behavior and attitude—she’s seen firsthand the positive changes in her son since the program began.
One mentor expressed his deep gratitude for being a part of this program, noting how much it has helped him grow as an individual. "It has tested my patience and love for others, especially those who might be marginalized," he said. "It has also shown me that with a little personal effort, I am able to make a real difference in the lives of others." His words highlight the powerful impact this program has on both mentors and mentees alike.
When asked how he views God, one teenage boy shared, "I view God as a leader because He has been watching over mankind all this time." Another boy expressed, "God is a kind and lovable person." These responses are a testament to the deepening understanding of who God is and the strong foundation being built in their lives.
