As we close out 2024, we had the privilege of hosting our 6th and final Facilitator Training in Durban—a day full of learning, growth, and empowerment. It was an exciting and enriching experience that left us all inspired and ready to make a difference in the lives of teens.
We kicked off the day with a fun icebreaker, one that could easily be adapted for use with teenagers. It was a great way to set the tone for the day and get everyone engaged right from the start. After that, we dove into some important topics, including safeguarding and the necessity of police certificates. With everyone on the same page, we split into men and women’s groups to explore the Dream and Dare materials in depth.
Facilitators had the chance to walk through activities focused on identity, belonging, and purpose—topics that are key to the work we do with teens. We then broke into small groups to go over the facilitator manual, brainstorming creative ways to bring these sessions to life in our own unique settings.
A highlight of the day was when the guys shared the Dare Declaration in front of the women. This is something the teenage boys will do as part of their journey, as they respond to the call to stand up and become the kind of men who are brave, strong, and true to their values. It was a powerful moment that left us all feeling inspired.
When we asked how the training had impacted the trainees, we received some truly heartwarming responses:
"It made me realize that I am capable of doing whatever I set my mind to. Also, that I am strong, brave, beautiful, valued, and special."
"It got me excited about running the program in my setting."
"The training gave me very practical ways to disciple girls, and provided great resources to use."
The energy and passion in the room were contagious, and we walked away from this final training of the year with full hearts, knowing that these facilitators are more than ready to impact the teens in their communities.
We can’t wait to see the ripple effect of this training in the months and years to come. Here's to continuing the journey of empowering teenagers to discover their identity, embrace their purpose, and step boldly into their futures.
